How to Enable the Live Chat Bubble in Odoo

1. Install the Live Chat App

  1. Log in to your Odoo backend.

  2. Go to Apps.

  3. Search for Live Chat.

  4. Click Install.

Once installed, Odoo automatically prepares the chat system for use on your website.

2. Configure a Live Chat Channel

  1. Go to Live Chat → Channels.

  2. Open an existing channel or create a new one.

  3. Set the channel name, for example “Website Support”.

In the channel settings, you can configure:

  • Operators (users who will answer chats)

  • Working hours

  • Welcome message

  • Offline message

3. Add the Live Chat Bubble to Your Website

  1. Go to Website → Configuration → Settings.

  2. Enable Live Chat.

  3. Select the live chat channel you want to use.

  4. Save the settings.

The chat bubble will now appear automatically on your website pages.

How the Live Chat Bubble Works for Visitors

  1. A visitor opens your website.

  2. The chat bubble appears after a few seconds or immediately, depending on your configuration.

  3. The visitor clicks the bubble and types a message.

  4. An available operator receives the message in Odoo.

  5. The conversation happens in real time.

If no operator is available, Odoo can:

  • Show an offline message

  • Ask the visitor to leave an email

  • Create a lead or helpdesk ticket (optional)

How Operators Use Live Chat in Odoo

Receiving Messages

Operators see incoming chats in the Live Chat menu or in the messaging interface. They can handle multiple chats at the same time.

Responding to Visitors

Operators can:

  • Type replies manually

  • Use predefined responses

  • Share links or simple instructions

Ending a Chat

Once the conversation is finished, the operator can close the chat. Odoo stores the chat history for future reference and analysis.
